How do you stay motivated when learning something new?
The Playful Tether
The mind will build a stubborn wall
Where sudden shadows start to fall.
The path grows steep, the progress slow,
Until you feel you cannot know
The very thing you sought to trace,
And failure stares you in the face.
For learning is a quiet grind
That taxes hands and tires mind,
And if the climb is only stone,
You’ll leave the heavy trail alone.
You need a anchor in the slack,
A gentle hand to pull you back.
You need a game, a lighter spark,
To keep a light on in the dark.
A foolish whim, a softer grace,
To occupy the weary space,
So when you rise to walk away,
A part of you will want to stay.
The heavy volume has its place,
But patience needs a slower pace.
To keep the fire, find the play,
And chase the bitter doubt away;
For when the forward march is sore,
The game’s the hand that holds the door.
